What it’s really like
Come as you are, walk how you like
There is no warm-up, no kit, no getting it wrong. Women arrive a little unsure the first time, coat done up, not quite knowing where to stand. Ten minutes in, someone has fallen into step beside them and the talk has started. By the river, it feels less like exercise and more like a morning with people who get it.
Some come to move their body. Some come because the week has been heavy and the house is too quiet. Both are reasons enough. You can talk the whole way round or say nothing at all. Either is welcome here.
Who it’s for
For women who’d rather not walk in alone
We start with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic women, and every woman in Wandsworth is welcome. You do not need to be fit, or confident, or know a single face. If you have been meaning to get out more and it keeps not happening, this is the gentlest way to start.

Walking group questions
Is the walking group really free?
Yes. The Friday Weekly Walk in Battersea Park is free, every week, with no catch and nothing to pay. You do not need to book, though it helps us to know you are coming.
Where in Battersea Park do you meet?
We share the exact meeting point in our WhatsApp group, along with any changes for that week. It is an easy, flat spot near a park entrance, simple to find on your first time.
How far and how fast do you walk?
A gentle hour at a pace set by whoever is slowest that day. There is always someone walking at the back, so nobody gets left behind. If you need to stop, we stop.
I have never joined a group like this. Will I feel out of place?
Most women come on their own the first time. By the second or third Friday, someone has learned your name and saved you a spot beside them. You will not be the only new face.
Can I bring a friend, a pram, or my child?
Yes to all three. Bring a friend if it makes the first time easier. Prams are welcome on the paths, and older children are fine alongside you. Just message us so we can look out for you.
What happens if it rains?
We check the weather and let everyone know on WhatsApp by Thursday evening. Light rain, we usually still walk. Heavy rain, we postpone. Either way, you will hear from us.
